about

In 1967, Polish puppeteer and choreographer Bartek Zieliński wrote his play of the lonely, dancing robot, „Odyseja tańczącego robota“, the odyssey of the dancing robot Vanya through space in search of friends and potential dance partners.
This touching and tragic-comic story is a collaboration with Romanian composer Nicodim Petru Cozma.
The rather rare mixture of dance and puppet theater was produced for Polish television in 1969 and broadcast in December of the same year.

Unfortunately, all recordings, picture and sound, have since been lost.
By chance, however, Berlin musician Naitsabes Rebok came across Cozma's musical score in the „Archiwum Państwowe w Gdańsku“, the Gdansk State Archives, during musicological research last year.

This music, which has now been created, is an attempt at a musical reconstruction of the „Odyseja tańczącego robota“.

Cozma's notes for a seven-piece ensemble contain quite precise specifications of how the music should sound, such as „staggering“, „deathly sad“, or „as if chased by a pack of giant worms“. Rebok took on the notes with his Casio PSS-270 keyboard, adding a whole new timbre to the whole thing.
